Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has moved to assist families mourning loved ones lost in the ongoing floods. Speaking from his Upper Hill office on March 10, Sonko announced that his Sonko Rescue Team will support the 27 victims whose bodies are currently in Nairobi morgues, covering mortuary fees, providing coffins, and arranging transportation for burial.
The initiative aims to ease both financial and emotional burdens on grieving families.
“As Sonko Rescue Team, we have been devastated by the news of floods that swept through our city, claiming several lives. I want to compliment Red Cross for the good work they are doing. We saw a very sad clip that the families who lost their loved ones are stranded on how they will transport the remains of their loved ones to various burial places,” Sonko said.
Sonko also personally reached out to several bereaved families, assuring them of full support with burial arrangements, including settling pending bills where necessary. He said his team is committed to stand with families during this difficult period, providing logistical and emotional support.
