A team appointed to look into claims of organ trafficking at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret has officially handed over its report to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

The 13-member team, led by Professor Elizabeth Bukusi from the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), was picked in April and given three months to complete the investigation.

CS Duale thanked the committee for finishing the work on time and said the findings would help improve organ transplant services in the country.

“We appreciate the team’s effort. Their work will guide us as we make important changes to protect patients and promote fairness in the health sector,” said Duale.

The report highlights key findings and recommendations on how to improve organ transplants are  in Kenya

The report calls out for better rules, more transparency, and stronger checks to stop wrongdoing in the system. The Ministry of Health is now reviewing the report before sharing the next steps.

CS Duale promised that the government will take the recommendations seriously and put them into action

The investigation followed public concern earlier this year after reports suggested possible illegal organ trade involving Mediheal Hospital. The hospital denied any wrongdoing but supported the formation of the probe team.

With the report now in the hands of the government, Kenyans are hopeful that real change will follow  especially for patients who depend on safe and fair access to transplant services.
