Maverick Aoko Charged with Publishing False Information on X

Controversial social media personality Scophine Aoko Otieno popularly known as Maverick Aoko has been presented at Milimani Law Courts following her arrest on Friday, August 16.

During the Monday, August 19, court session, Aoko was charged with three counts.

In count one, she was charged with publishing false information under Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.

In the second county, she was charged with cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes.

In the third count, Aoko was charged with fraudulent use of electronic data contrary to Section 38 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.

According to the charge sheet seen by TUKIO.co.ke, the complainant in the case has been identified as Beth Wambui Mbuitu.

Wambui accused Aoko of publishing false and defamatory information about her on her X account dubbed: Maverick Aoko @AokoOtieno.

“On the 3rd day of August 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before the court, knowingly and unlawfully published false, defamatory and threatening information online, while using the X Corp Account dubbed: Maverick Aoko @AokoOtieno_," read the charge sheet in part.

The complainant claimed Aoko’s posts were intentionally malicious, designed to incite fear and damage her professional reputation and personal well-being.
