Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and former Cabinet Minister Mukhisa Kituyi were among leaders who joined Daystar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Laban Ayiro and his family for the requiem Mass of his late wife, Agnes Malesi Ayiro, on Thursday.
The Mass was held at Daystar University’s main campus in Athi River, bringing together family, friends, university staff and other leaders to bid farewell to Agnes.
Matiang’i shared pictures from the service on X, saying he had joined the Ayiro family and the Daystar community to mourn Agnes.
“I was joined by Bomachoge Borabu MP Eng. Obadiah Barongo, former Cabinet Minister Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Prof. Martin Oloo, Associate Dean of the School of Law at Daystar University, and other leaders,” Matiang’i said.
He said the leaders stood with Prof Ayiro, his family and the wider Daystar community during the difficult period.
“May Agnes rest in eternal peace,” Matiang’i said, quoting Revelation 21:4: “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Agnes died on September 21, 2026, at Avenue Hospital in Nairobi, where she had been receiving treatment. She was 71.
Daystar University announced her death on September 24, describing her as the beloved wife of its Vice-Chancellor and extending condolences to Prof Ayiro and his family.
The university said it stood with the family as they mourned the loss and prayed for strength, comfort and peace during the difficult period.
Agnes was the wife of Prof Ayiro, who has served as Vice-Chancellor of Daystar University. The university’s official profile describes him as an educationist, researcher and administrator who has held senior positions in Kenya’s education sector.
Following Thursday’s requiem Mass, Agnes will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 3, at Soy in Lumino Village, Likuyani.
