Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has criticized the state of Kenya’s diplomatic missions abroad, citing delayed salaries, unpaid rent, and lack of basic operational support for staff stationed in foreign countries.

In a statement, the senator described the situation as unacceptable, warning that the financial difficulties facing embassy staff are damaging Kenya’s international reputation and affecting service delivery to citizens abroad.

“The situation of Kenyan staff in diplomatic missions abroad is unacceptable,’he said.

Olekina questioned the government’s continued expansion of diplomatic missions while existing embassies reportedly struggle with pending bills and operational inefficiencies.

The senator further challenged the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to address the crisis urgently, arguing that Kenyan diplomats cannot effectively represent the country while facing prolonged financial hardships.

He called on Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to intervene immediately and restore stability within the country’s foreign missions.

The remarks come amid growing concerns over financial management within government institutions and the welfare of Kenyan workers serving abroad.
