Leaders across the political line have appealed for restraint and patience as investigations into the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo are ongoing, despite final arrangements for burial being put into action.
A gloomy atmosphere pervades the Jirongo family home in Nairobi, where mourners continue to troop in to pay their condolences to the grieving family. The Nairobi Funeral Committee, chaired by Fred Gumo, is reported to be proceeding with burial preparations smoothly in both Nairobi and Bungoma County.
As per the committee, plans for logistics, security, and transport are in the final stages to ensure that the deceased gets a respectable send-off. The funeral should take place on Tuesday, 30th December, at his home in Tuti Village, which is in Kanduyi Constituency, Bungoma County, for Jirongo.
The leaders who visited the family also described Jirongo as a uniting force whose death has had an impact on the whole nation. They asked all Kenyans to remain calm and let the relevant authorities complete investigations on the circumstances surrounding the death.
Labour movement leaders also called on people to exercise restraint and avoid making premature comments until investigation results are known.
The KNPSWU General Secretary, Dr. Isaac Andabwa, has requested the community to offer support to the family during the burial process as the country says goodbye to the ex-legislator.
As the preparations are underway, appeals have been made by the leadership to the public to remain peaceful while the last respects are paid to Cyrus Jirongo.
