New details have emerged about the grisly accident involving a brand new Range Rover and an Isuzu canter along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

After several conflicting accounts about what exactly happened, Ian Kaniu, the agent who cleared the Range Rover at the port after the owner imported it, has come out to clear the air.

Kaniu said the Range Rover owner had imported two vehicles from the United Kingdom.

At the time of the vehicles’ arrival at the Mombasa Port, the man had taken his wife, children and househelp for a holiday in Mombasa.

After clearing the two vehicles, the importer decided to drive one of them with his wife and children onboard.

He then instructed his driver to carry their househelp in the other, the now ill-fated Range Rover. The driver and the househelp would later die when the swanky vehicle collided with the canter early Tuesday in the Mariakani area, in Kilifi County.

The driver of the sports utility vehicle was identified as Jamal Mubarak aged 37. The househelp was aged 29 years.

In the accident, the Range Rover collided head-on with the canter, resulting in the write-off of the brand-new vehicle.

The canter drafted off the road and overturned following the impact.

"The driver was speeding from Mombasa to Nairobi direction when he collided with the canter, as he tried to overtake another vehicle. Both wrecks were towed to the local police station," the police said.

The two bodies were moved to Coast General Hospital Morgue, while the three occupants of the canter were rushed to Mariakani Sub County Hospital.
