The 2025 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two National Games officially kicked off on Tuesday across various venues in Kakamega County.
The week-long event features top talents from across the country competing in football, volleyball, rugby sevens, basketball 3-on-3, netball, and racket games.
At stake are coveted qualification slots for the East Africa Secondary School Games, scheduled to run from August 14 to 24, also in Kakamega.
Volleyball Action at Masinde Muliro University
In boys’ volleyball, Coast region’s Mwaluphamba Secondary School stunned Nairobi champions Ruthimitu Secondary 3-2 in a thrilling five-set encounter (29-31, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17, 12-15).
Reigning national champions Cheptil made light work of Furaha Secondary from the North Eastern region with a straight-sets victory (25-19, 25-21, 25-17).
Former champions Malava Secondary from Western eased past Eastern’s Gankanga 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-10).
Nyanza’s champions, making their debut at the national stage, marked their presence with a dominant 3-0 win over Central’s Kambaa Secondary (25-18, 25-14, 25-16).
In the girls’ category, Rift Valley and national champions Kesogon Secondary outclassed Soweto Academy of Nairobi 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-19).
East Africa champions Kwanthanze Secondary swept aside Nyanza’s Nyakongo Secondary 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-22). Moi Forces saw off Kinale 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-17), while Western champions Bishop Sulumeti cruised past Eldas from North Eastern 3-0 (25-4, 25-5, 25-10).
Football Highlights
In football, St Joseph’s Boys National School Kitale earned a 3-1 win over Highway Secondary.
A first-half goal by Collins Mwaliti and a second-half brace from Instine Simiyu sealed the win, with Samuel Mwanzi scoring the consolation for Highway.
At Mumias Sports Complex, Western representatives Musingu thrashed Central’s Mbariru Secondary 5-1.
Goals came from Keven Manan (22′), Austin Olouch (32′), Marvin Ashihundu (36′, 65′), and Shaban Quimba (78′), while Devon Odhiambo netted the lone goal for Mbariru.
Netball Blowouts
In netball, debutants St Joseph’s Kitale girls crushed Eastern’s Kajiampau 96-6. Former champions Kayatiwi from the Coast dominated Dr Amin of North Eastern 114-4.
Defending champions Oyugi Ongango from Nyanza also impressed, dismantling Central’s Kinale 79-4.
Upcoming Events
The rugby sevens and basketball 3-on-3 competitions are set to commence on Wednesday at the Bulls Ring and Police Canteen venues respectively.
