The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is undergoing a leadership change following the exit of Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga.

On April 8, 2026, the KRA board confirmed that Wattanga has concluded his tenure, marking the end of his leadership at the country’s tax agency.

In a statement, the board praised Wattanga for his contributions, noting his role in advancing restructuring reforms and strengthening the Authority’s operations. He will now proceed on terminal leave, effective immediately, as the transition process takes place.

To ensure continuity, Dr. Lilian Nyawanda has been appointed as Acting Commissioner General. Dr. Nyawanda previously served as the Commissioner of Customs and Border Control, bringing experience in managing key revenue and border operations.

The KRA Board emphasized its ongoing commitment to efficient and effective service delivery for all Kenyans, assuring stakeholders that operations will continue without disruption during the interim period. The search for a substantive Commissioner General is expected to proceed in due course.
