Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has asked regulatory agencies and government authorities to improve how they serve Kenyans, saying citizens should feel the direct benefits of government systems and reforms.
Koskei spoke during the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference held in Kitui, where leaders from different government institutions met to discuss accountability, service delivery and the performance of regulators.
He told the agencies to stop concentrating only on procedures and compliance and instead focus on practical solutions that make services easier and more effective for wananchi.
The conference brought together Principal Secretaries, board chairpersons, chief executive officers, regulators and governance experts from across the country.
The topic discussed during this year’s conference revolved around measuring the actual effect that regulation is having on the ground and the role that government mechanisms play in making life easy for regular citizens.
According to Koskei, there should be collaboration and accountability between different public institutions for Kenyans to restore their trust in government mechanisms.
There was also a presence of other senior officers, such as Mary Muthoni, who is the Principal Secretary of Public Health and Professional Standards.
During the discussion, different measures were put forward aimed at enhancing effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability in regulatory processes.
As per the Ministry of Health, there would continue to be an effort aimed at improving regulation in the health sector to enhance its services.
The Ministry of Health added that enhanced collaboration and accountability between various institutions would help achieve Universal Health Coverage within public health centers.
