Kipkelion Elders Protest Alleged Plan to Relocate Londiani Hospital Project

Elders drawn from Kipkelion East and West have raised concerns over what they claim is a secret plan to relocate the proposed Londiani National Referral Hospital from its original site in Londiani to Chelimo, in Kericho Town.

According to the elders, Londiani was publicly endorsed in 2015 as the site for the hospital, following a directive by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta for the county to identify 100 acres of land for the project but over a decade later, the project remains stalled.

The community is calling for transparency from both county and national leadership, and is demanding that the project remains in Londiani.

However, ten years later, the project remains stalled — and concerns are now growing over an alleged push to shift the hospital to a different location. Community leaders say such a move would amount to betrayal and disregard for the people of Kipkelion, who have patiently waited for the project’s implementation.

“We are shocked and deeply disappointed by reports that the hospital may be moved to Chelimo. This is not only unfair but a grave injustice to the people of Londiani who were promised this facility,” said elder Joseph Langat.

The elders are now demanding full transparency from both the national and county governments on the status of the project.

They argue that relocating the hospital would undermine equitable development and deepen regional disparities within Kericho County.

“This hospital must remain in Londiani, as was agreed and publicly announced. Anything less will not be accepted,” the elders declared.

The county government has yet to issue a formal statement addressing the growing concerns.
