Trade, Investment and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has responded to tough questions about the national government’s support for sustainable markets and trade before the Senate this morning. At the Senate, he outlined oversight mechanisms and government interventions aimed at strengthening county-level trade infrastructure.

He said the market and trade support is anchored in the Constitution and Intergovernmental Relations Act of 2012, designed to ensure accountability and cooperative governance.

Answering questions posed to him, he said the trade and market support provides key business development services, in the form of market intelligence and advisory services to support market operations in micro, small and medium enterprises.

In a statement, Kinyanjui stated that the relaxation of standards in the fuel sector was to ensure the country had enough supply, as sourcing petroleum products across the world is a major challenge.

He said Kenya opted to prioritize availability over perfect quality, ensuring the country had enough fuel to meet the demands of Kenyans. He noted the current may sustain the country for one to two years as the global supply tries to stabilize.

In farming sector, he emphasized that Kenya has the best products and he has negotiated with manufacturers and the counties on how they can increase production, have the right varieties and look for better links that can support farmers.
