Kenya’s preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 is gathering momentum as the major project of the Talanta Sports Complex training ground is underway for completion.
The facility not only represents Africa’s premier football tournament but also a long- term investment in the country’s sports.
Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has handed over the construction works for two training grounds at the Talanta Sports Complex to a contractor, marking the commencement of immediate work ahead of the completion of the facility.
The project includes modern changing rooms, auxiliary amenities and compliance upgrades to meet CAF international standards.
Finishing works are already underway, ensuring the ground is ready to host teams during the AFCON 2027. CS Mvurya emphasized that these investments are designed to serve athletes, creating a legacy of world-class infrastructure.
At the same time, CS Mvurya conducted an inspection of the stadium, confirming the construction is on track. He said all major works are expected to be substantially completed by end of July 2026.
He affirmed the government is working closely with CAF through regular technical arrangements, ensuring compliance in operations, and that governance and institutional arrangements are in good condition.
The Local Organizing Committee is expected to onboard additional personnel to strengthen preparations as Kenya intensifies its readiness.
