The Kenyan High Commission in Canberra has confirmed that investigations are underway following the death of Sheila Chebii a Kenyan woman in Australia under circumstances that remain unclear.
In a statement released on Monday, the embassy identified the woman as 25-year-old Sheila Chebii and said it was working closely with Australian authorities to establish what exactly happened.
“The High Commission urges members of the public to refrain from speculation or dissemination of unverified information while the relevant authorities undertake the necessary investigations,” the statement said.
According to information shared by family members, Sheila reportedly died on May 18 shortly after reporting to work.
Relatives claim she had been working on the 19th floor of a building before she was later found on the fourth floor.
The family says several details surrounding the incident have left them with more questions than answers.
They allege that Sheila’s injuries appeared minor despite reports that she may have fallen from a high floor.
Among the injuries mentioned by the family were bruises on the arms, a small forehead injury, damage to one eye and injuries around the hip area.
The family has also questioned the sequence of events leading to her death, saying there were no known witnesses to the incident.
However, according to family members, CCTV footage showed that Sheila was seen entering a hallway located on the 19th floor before she could be found somewhere else in the building.
The circumstances surrounding her death also gave rise to suspicion among her loved ones.
It was believed that Sheila died mid-day, but there were allegations that she texted someone and called some people at the same time.
The Kenyan High Commission in Australia has recognized the concerns and promised to assist Kenyans who stay in Australia regarding the case.
It was reported that the mission will do its best to ensure that Kenyans overseas remain protected as long as necessary.
Nevertheless, it was urged to all citizens not to spread rumors on social media as the investigation process goes on.
The death case of Sheila caused emotional response among Kenyans, who are asking for justice.
There will be more news once Australian law enforcement officials conduct the investigation in this tragic case.
