Kenyan fashion designer Kate Mayeye Okaranime has earned an international recognition after being selected to showcase her designs at the Global Thai Silk Exhibition 2026 in Thailand, proudly placing Kenyan creativity and African-inspired fashion on an international platform.
The event, organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in partnership with the Association of Thai Silk and Culture Promotions, brought together designers from more than 100 countries to showcase diverse cultural identities through contemporary Thai Silk designs.
Kate Mayeye, founder of African Fabric and Design Kenya, celebrated this milestone in her fashion journey, showcasing various creative designs of clothing made from African fabrics.
Her designs featured bold color combinations, intricate decorative details, structured bodices and flowing silhouettes that reflect an expansive approach to fashion, that combines visual impact with an appreciation for African-inspired aesthetics.
The Global Thai Silk Exhibition provides an international platform for designers to explore traditional textiles, cultural identity, contemporary fashion and craftsmanship, where they exchange ideas, gain international exposure and connect with the wider fashion industry.
The event aims to foster for the international cultural exchange and innovation in fashion, ahead of Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
