A Kenyan businesswoman, Sharon Wangeshi Nyambura, popularly known as Thrift Kali, has revealed she spent more than Ksh 263,000 to travel from Kenya to Nigeria to attend the ongoing Hallelujah Challenge.
The event, recognized as a Christian worship movement led by Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey, has drawn thousands of believers across the world both physically and virtually.
Sharon said it’s a spiritual calling from God and was responding back to His call, stating her travel was driven by her faith and not personal connection.
“I did not come here for anybody; I came here by hearing God. The God who sends you provides for you,” Wangeshi said.
According to reports, Wangeshi invested heavily in flights, accommodation and logistics to ensure she could attend the Hallelujah Challenge in person.
She revealed she spent Ksh 40,000 on visa, and Ksh 143,000 on return flights.
““I spoke to one-person akanitengenezea eVisa; eVisa ilikuwa Ksh30,000 na nilikuwa nimelipa Ksh10,000 yenye hawajanirudisha ile ya kwanza, so tusemeVisa mimi nilitumia Ksh 40,000, eVisa nilitumia agent. Then kwa flight nilipia Ksh 143,000 for to and from. Hiyo yote ni visa na flight ni Ksh 183,000,” she said.
She said accommodation is quite expensive and had booked an eight-day staycation, where she found they are charging Ksh 10,000 per night. She expected to return to Kenya on October 13, but she decided to extend her stay, saying God revealed to her there is more at the prayer meetings.
“Hotels are very expensive; hotels that I found are priced at Ksh10,000 per night. Mimi nilibook for eight daysnilikuwa nafaa kurudiTuesday this week, but God told me there is more, so I had to add some more nights,” she said.
She added the amount does not include food or transport within Nigeria, saying the expenses might be much higher than what she revealed.
The Hallelujah Challenge began in 2017 as a midnight worship livestream on Instagram and quickly became a viral spiritual movement, attracting millions of participants worldwide. The challenge involves nightly praise, prayer and worship sessions.
