Kenya has moved to strengthen its health sector partnership with the United States following high-level talks between Cabinet Secretaries and American officials on Wednesday.

Finance Cabinet Secretary and his Health counterpart, Aden Duale, met with a delegation from the U.S. Government led by Chargé d’Affaires Susan Burns to explore avenues for sustainable health financing and future collaboration.

During the engagement, the Kenyan officials expressed appreciation for Washington’s long-standing support to the country’s health sector, particularly through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

These initiatives have played a critical role in combating HIV/AIDS, bolstering public health systems, and addressing major health threats.

The discussions focused on ensuring sustainable health financing, reinforcing key health institutions, and advancing Kenya’s universal health coverage (UHC) agenda.

Both sides agreed to establish a Joint Technical Working Group tasked with deepening cooperation and aligning health sector priorities with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The move underscores Kenya’s growing emphasis on strengthening health systems through strategic international partnerships while ensuring long-term sustainability in health financing.
