Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for stronger economic cooperation between Kenya and Türkiye, saying deeper global partnerships should translate into more investment, jobs and access to international markets for Kenyan businesses.
Mudavadi made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Türkiye–Kenya Parliamentary Friendship Group, where discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, aviation, investment and security.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary said Kenya was seeking to move beyond traditional diplomatic relations and build partnerships that create tangible economic opportunities for citizens and businesses.
“Stronger global partnerships should open doors for Kenyan businesses, create jobs and connect our people to bigger markets,” Mudavadi said.
A key area of discussion was the potential for increased Turkish investment in Kenya, with Mudavadi emphasising the need to deepen cooperation in sectors capable of generating employment and expanding economic opportunities.
The two sides also explored ways of strengthening trade relations and boosting tourism, with greater connectivity identified as an important driver of economic growth.
Mudavadi highlighted the potential for stronger synergies between Kenya Airways and Turkish Airlines, saying enhanced aviation cooperation could increase passenger connectivity while opening Kenya to more tourists, investors and business opportunities.
He said improved air links would also strengthen Kenya’s position as a regional economic and transport hub, providing businesses with easier access to international markets.
Beyond trade and investment, the discussions also covered peace, security and counter-terrorism, areas Mudavadi said remain critical to creating a stable environment for economic growth.
He noted that stronger cooperation between the two countries in security matters would help safeguard the stability required for businesses, tourism and investment to thrive.
Kenya and Türkiye have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations, with both countries seeking to expand cooperation across economic, political and security sectors.
Mudavadi said the existing friendship provides a strong foundation for a more ambitious economic partnership.
“Kenya and Türkiye have a strong friendship. Our focus now is turning it into even greater opportunity for our people,” he said.
