Kenya and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have strengthened their bilateral relations following the successful conclusion of the first-ever Kenya–Saudi Arabia Political Consultations, a move expected to expand cooperation in trade, investment, labour mobility and infrastructure development.

The inaugural consultations, held in Riyadh, were co-chaired by Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The high-level meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening collaboration in labour mobility, trade and investment, peace and security, technical education and information and communications technology (ICT).

Among the key outcomes was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding on enhanced labour cooperation, investment promotion and customs collaboration. The Kenya Development Corporation also signed an agreement with the Saudi Export–Import Bank to promote exports, investment and knowledge exchange.

Saudi Arabia further expressed strong interest in public-private partnerships in renewable energy, infrastructure and logistics—sectors expected to create jobs, attract investment and accelerate Kenya’s economic transformation.

Describing the consultations as a milestone in bilateral relations, Mudavadi said the engagement marked the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the two nations.

“A new chapter in Kenya–Saudi Arabia relations was written today with the successful conclusion of the first-ever Kenya–Saudi Arabia Political Consultations, marking a significant milestone in our growing strategic partnership,” he said.

Mudavadi added that the consultations demonstrate Kenya’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits through diplomacy.

“These consultations reaffirm that Kenya’s diplomacy is delivering tangible results by expanding opportunities for our workers, businesses and investors while strengthening our country’s strategic partnerships,” he said.

Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Alfred Mutua, also participated in the consultations, highlighting the importance of labour cooperation as one of the pillars of the growing partnership between Kenya and Saudi Arabia.

The consultations are expected to pave the way for deeper economic engagement and regular diplomatic dialogue as both countries seek to strengthen trade, investment and development cooperation.
