Retail industry is among the pillar of Kenya’s economic growth, connecting manufacturers, farmers and consumers while opening doors to regional markets.

Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui noted the importance of innovation, digital integration and stronger partnerships between retailers and producers. He was speaking at the 2nd Retail Summit 2026 held at Sarit Centre, Nairobi.

CS Kinyanjui said the retail chains will provide an important avenue for Kenyan goods and products to access regional markets, boosting exports and supporting local industries.

The summit under CEO Wambui Mbarire brought together industry leaders, policymakers and entrepreneurs to discuss ways of strengthening Kenya’s retail ecosystem, it was organized by the Retail Trade Association of Kenya (RETRAK).

“Retail is the heartbeat of our economy; by strengthening this sector, we empower local industries and ensure Kenyan goods compete regionally,” said CEO Wambui.

The ministry will continue to support policies and initiatives that strengthen the retail sector, expand market access for Kenyan products, promote local manufacturing and create jobs and opportunities for the people.
