Kenya Police beat Shabana FC 1-0.

Kenya Police Football Club have been crowned champions of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) for the first time in their history, sealing the title in just their fourth season in the top flight.

Promoted to the Premier League in September 2021, the law enforcers clinched the coveted crown with a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Shabana FC at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.

Brian Okoth was the hero of the day, rising highest in the 75th minute to head home the title-winning goal.

The win lifted Police to an unassailable 64 points, securing the league with one round of matches remaining and ending a dramatic three-season wait for top-flight glory.

Defending champions Gor Mahia, who edged Ulinzi Stars 3-2 in a separate fixture at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, remain second with 58 points—six adrift of the new champions—and can no longer catch up, even with one game left to play.

Had Police dropped points against Shabana, the title race would have gone down to the wire next weekend when Police and Gor Mahia face off in the season finale.

Police’s triumph is all the more remarkable given their dismal start to the season. After eight matches, they had registered just one win, five draws, and two losses—hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

The early struggles prompted a sweeping shake-up in November 2024, which saw the club part ways with head coach Salim Babu and his entire technical bench.

The appointment of Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije, a former coach of the Tanzania and Burundi national teams, proved to be the turning point.

Gor, who were chasing a record-extending 22nd league title and hoping to complete a hat-trick of championships, will now have to settle for a second-place finish—regardless of the outcome in the final match.
