Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday Morning launched Kenya’s National Blue Economy strategy 2025-2030.

Joho termed the move as a milestone that affirms our determination to place our ocean, lakes and all aquatic resources at the centre of our national development agenda.

He argued that its is builds on the journey that Kenya began in earnest at the 2018 Nairobi Sustainable Blue Economy Conference and subsequent policy advances including the vision 2030, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and the Strategic Plan of the State Department of Blue Economy and Fisheries.

“The strategy explicitly positions blue economy and fisheries as core drivers of our growth, fully aligned with our aspirations under the Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. This occasion also allowed us to proudly reaffirm Kenya’s readiness to host the 11th Edition of the Our Ocean Conference in the Coastal City of Mombasa from 16th to 18th June 2026, an opportunity to once again rally global action toward protecting our oceans while advancing sustainable economic growth,” he added.

The Cs extended appreciation to the Blue Economy Principal Secretary, Ms. Betsy Njagi, for organizing a colourful and impactful event.

He further thanked Kangogo Bowen and Members of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Blue Economy and Fisheries for their support as well as excellency ambassadors and high commissioners led by the European Union Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Henriette Geiger, the International Fund for Agricultural Development Country Director Ms. Mariatu Kamara among others .
