President William Ruto has emphasized the long-standing and fruitful relationship between Kenya and Zambia, highlighting the mutual benefits that have arisen from decades of cooperation.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in Beijing, China, President Ruto expressed his commitment to further strengthening ties between the two nations, particularly in the areas of trade, agriculture, and information and communication technology (ICT).
Ruto acknowledged the historical ties between Kenya and Zambia, noting that these relations have significantly contributed to the development and prosperity of both countries.
“We have a rich history with Zambia that dates back many decades. Our ties have brought immense benefits to our two nations,” said President Ruto.
He added that Kenya is keen on enhancing collaboration within the framework of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), where both nations are key members.
The two leaders also discussed various avenues for deepening cooperation, particularly in trade, agriculture, and ICT. President Ruto pointed out that these sectors are crucial for economic growth and development in both countries.
“We will continue to enhance our collaboration in trade, agriculture, and ICT as members of COMESA,” he stated, underscoring the importance of leveraging regional partnerships to boost economic ties and drive sustainable development.
President Ruto also expressed his support for Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidature for the position of African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.
He commended President Hichilema for his leadership as the current chair of COMESA and acknowledged the importance of regional backing for Odinga’s bid.
“We also deliberated on the support for Rt Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidature for the position of African Union Commission chairperson,” President Ruto noted.
