Kenya’s Ministry of Education has teamed up with Thailand’s Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and Green Africa Foundation to collaborate on a project aimed at expanding educational access alongside promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The partnership was signed through a virtual meeting which included members from the Green Africa Foundation, Green Africa Group, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, the Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi, and Kenya’s Ministry of Education.

By the partners’ agreement, they shall create an open learning framework that is well structured to extend educational opportunities and provide beneficiaries with practical and skills, oriented knowledge. One of the main objectives of this programme is to allow Kenyan students to study and emulate Thailand’s development model, especially the role of education in driving economic growth and sustainability.

According to partnets, grassroots communities are the main beneficiaries of this initiative, and thus training sessions will be held for children, youth farmers, artisans, community leaders, and business owners.

The training will be oriented towards practical skills, innovation, and sustainability with the goal of enabling the communities to contribute not only towards economic development but also to environmental protection.

The agreement has been hailed by environmentalists and education stakeholders who see it as a good move that will have a significant positive effect on Kenya’s education system as well as help in the conservation of the environment.

Besides securing the future of education, they insist that intertwining the two is the only way through which we can overcome the ever, increasing challenges of climate change, depleted ecosystems, and youth unemployment.

After its uptake, the collaboration will be a game changer in many ways besides the education sector as it will also set the stage for the creation of a sustainability and innovation culture throughout society.
