Kenyan content creator Kelvin Kinuthia has opened up about his personal journey toward embracing authenticity and self-acceptance, addressing the ongoing public commentary regarding his gender expression, personal presentation and sexuality.
“I’m so proud of the girl I’m becoming…My identity is not something I owe anyone an explanation for and my happiness does not require anyone’s permission,” Kinuthia said.
He admitted for a long time, he struggled with the tension between seeking acceptance from others and staying true to himself. However, he learned to prioritize authenticity over external validation.
His statement follows public scrutiny from local officials led by Nairobi County CEC for Customer Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria, who had previously questioned Kinuthia’s use of feminine clothing, hairstyles and cosmetics in his shared videos.
Kinuthia said he learned that life does not need to be a subject of debate and that he doesn’t owe anyone an explanation about who he is. He added that he is learning every part of himself, including the parts people celebrate and even the parts they try to shame him for.
“I’m not perfect. I’m still healing, still learning, still growing and still becoming. But damn…I’m proud of the person I see in the mirror today,” he added.
He thanked those who supported him while acknowledging that not everyone would understand his choices.
