The Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) has held discussions with the Export-Import Bank of China (CEXIM) to explore a financing facility aimed at helping Kenyan businesses acquire advanced machinery, equipment and technology from China.

The proposal was presented by KDC Director General Norah Ratemo and Amb. Lynette Mwende Ndile during engagements with the Chinese financial institution on October 29, 2026.

The proposed export-import financing facility is expected to improve access to long-term financing for Kenyan enterprises seeking to invest in modern machinery and technology to strengthen their operations.

According to KDC, the initiative builds on its experience implementing the India Exim Line of Credit, which provides a foundation for expanding international financing partnerships to support local industrial development.

The corporation said the proposed facility seeks to strengthen industrial capacity, accelerate technology transfer and expand access to financing for enterprises operating across Kenya’s priority sectors.

If implemented, the arrangement could provide Kenyan businesses with additional opportunities to modernise production processes, access advanced technology and improve their industrial capabilities through partnerships with Chinese suppliers.

The discussions form part of KDC’s efforts to mobilise development financing and support the growth of enterprises across different sectors of the Kenyan economy.
