The roar of celebration echoed across the field as KCB Rugby lifted another trophy with their victory at the 60th edition of the Christie 7s, the Lions cementing their dominance in Kenyan rugby, clinching their eighth National Sevens Circuit title.
The Bankers sealed the crown after Menengai Oilers eliminated rival contenders Kabras Sugar FC in the Cup quarterfinals at the Christie 7s, following KCB’s own 19-12 defeat to Strathmore Leos.
The Christie 7s, hosted at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, sealed third place in the circuit’s final leg. The two sides were separated by six points in the overall championship standings, with KCB leading on 98 points while Kabras had 92 points.
Their consistency across multiple legs of the tournament showed the tactical discipline that made them accumulate points across the season ensuring they remained at the summit.
Despite being eliminated by Strathmore Leos in the Cup semifinals, in a 19-12 defeat, their perennial rival Kabras Sugar suffered the same fate, falling 20-10 to Menengai Oilers in the Rai Derby.
The win puts them ahead of rivals Kenya Harlequins, Mwamba and Impala, who have each won the titles four times.
