Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has announced that the Kanyoni Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market in Gatundu North Constituency Kiambu County is at 80 per cent completion level

The Sh56 million fresh produce market is among 31 markets under construction in Kiambu County and 500 others being developed across the country, to improve trading spaces for small, scale traders.

Kindiki inspected the ongoing works on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, alongside Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Nganga and other leaders.

In Gatundu North, the Kamwangi and Gatukuyu markets are also in the final stages of completion and have attracted investment of Sh387 million and Sh56 million respectively.

According to Kindiki, markets are part of the government’s Bottom, Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to empower small-scale traders through modern markets and improved business linkages.

The planned facilities include cold storage, halls for meetings, eateries toilets, mothers rooms for lactating women, kids playing zone, and information and communication technology for facilitation of e-commerce and other digital jobs.

Once finished, the markets will offer traders improved working environments and amenities for their fresh produce and areas to grow their business.
