Siaya Governor James Orengo appeared at the funeral of Phoebe Asiyo, the first female Member of Parliament (MP), on Friday, August 8, in Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County.
Orengo arrived at the funeral service about two and a half hours after President William Ruto’s arrival.
At the time of arrival, all the other Nyanza governors Ochilo Ayako (Migori) and Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), had been introduced by the host governor Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), and had addressed mourners.
Orengo was given a chance to address mourners shortly after his arrival when he confirmed to the public that he was healthy and had just desquamated.
"I want to tell you the people of Karachuonyo and Homa Bay at large that I, Orengo Nyatieng', I'm alive and healthy. I've just shed out a dead skin," Orengo affirmed amid cheers from the excited crowd.In his speech, he praised the deceased and lauded her for standing firm in fighting for women’s rights.
"I honour her for taking many women to the parliament, and it was right to give her such honorary send-off," Orengo said
