Instagram has introduced a new wordmark redesigned after ten years, which is the text-only logo that spells out the company’s name.
The iconic gradient camera icon remains untouched; with the wordmark itself has been reimagined, reflecting modern design sensibilities and the evolving role of Instagram.
The change was announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri on both Instagram and Threads, where he described the new logo as “sharper and more modern” while still referencing the original and maintaining simplicity.
The new system is a compact, bolder script with connected letterforms and rounder shapes that are noticeable in the ‘s,’ ‘r,’ and ‘g,’ while the old system was loose, handwritten cursive script that conveyed playfulness, nostalgia and a sense of personal expression.
Instagram also introduced an update that the main typeface will have clarity and versatility, handwriting-inspired adding a personal touch and a technical and minimalist application.
Instagram’s logo is one of the most recognized digital symbols, with nearly 3 billion monthly active users.
