The Ministry of Health has received Ebola response supplies worth Ksh83.39 million from the Government of India to support efforts to contain the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak.
The donation, received on Monday, October 19, includes 6,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, 60 powered air-purifying respirators and 30,000 N95 masks.
It also contains more than 86,000 sample transport kits, alongside protective gowns, gloves, face shields, boots and infrared thermometers.
Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni received the supplies at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) facility in Embakasi from India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Adarsh Swaika.
The Ministry said the supplies will help protect health workers and support response teams handling the outbreak.
The equipment will also be used in centers for treatment and isolation, as well as screening at points of entry and health care facilities.
This gift comes amid Kenya’s increasing efforts of preparing and responding to the threat of the disease, which sees the government concentrate on early detection and preventing further spread of the disease.
The Ministry confirmed that the country remains committed to the containment of the disease through early detection, isolation of suspected cases and enhanced infection prevention and control.
Health experts advised Kenyans to stay calm and vigilant.
