Inspector-General of the National Police Service Douglas Kanja is leading a Kenyan delegation in Italy for bilateral and technical engagements aimed at strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.
The engagements, which include meetings with Italian security institutions and technology experts, are focused on enhancing collaboration in cybersecurity, crisis management and the use of advanced technologies to address emerging security challenges.
On October 12, 2026, the Kenyan delegation held a bilateral meeting with Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN), hosted by its Deputy Director General, Dr Nunzia Ciardi.
According to the National Police Service, the discussions centred on strengthening cooperation through a comprehensive, whole-of-society approach to cyber crisis management, reflecting the growing importance of coordinated responses to cyber threats.
Cybersecurity has become an increasingly important component of national security as governments, businesses and public institutions rely more heavily on digital systems to deliver services and manage sensitive information.
Cooperation between security agencies can support information-sharing, technical capacity-building and the development of coordinated approaches to managing cyber incidents that may affect critical infrastructure and public services.
Later, the Kenyan delegation visited Leonardo’s Cyber and Security Solutions Division, where members were briefed on multi-domain technological capabilities used to support security operations globally.
The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to learn about technological approaches that can contribute to security preparedness and responses to emerging threats across different operational environments.
The National Police Service said the engagements form part of Kenya’s broader efforts to strengthen bilateral, inter-institutional and technical cooperation with international security partners.
The Kenyan team is accompanied by officials from the Kenyan Embassy in Italy, led by Ambassador Fredrick Matwanga.
The meetings highlight the role of international partnerships in addressing evolving security challenges, particularly in areas such as cyber crisis management, technological innovation and institutional capacity-building.
Further details on specific agreements, implementation timelines or new security initiatives arising from the engagements had not been provided in the National Police Service announcement.
