The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has dismissed claims by certain political actors alleging plans to influence the outcome of the 2027 General Election through extra-legal means.
In a press statement, the commission said it had noted with grave concern recent remarks suggesting that the presidential election could be manipulated outside the established constitutional and legal framework.
“These utterances, which have elicited considerable disquiet within the electoral environment, pose a real risk of distorting public perception of Kenya’s democratic processes. IEBC considers such utterances to be unacceptable, reckless, and entirely baseless,”IEBC said in a statement.
IEBC termed the statements as reckless, baseless, and dangerous, warning that such utterances risk undermining public confidence in Kenya’s democratic processes and electoral institutions.
The commission further stated that the claims are intended to create fear, mislead the public, and distort perceptions about the integrity of the country’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 polls.
IEBC has now urged Kenyans to disregard the remarks and avoid spreading information that could heighten political tension or erode trust in the electoral process.
The statement comes amid increasing political activity and early succession debates as the country gradually prepares for the next General Election.
