The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured voters in Ol Kalou Constituency that the register to be used in Thursday’s parliamentary by election is secure, verified and cannot be altered.
In a statement issued three days before the mini poll, the electoral agency said the register was certified and published through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 8410 on June 5 and remains the only lawful register that will be used during the election.
The commission urged voters to ignore any claims suggesting the register has been tampered with, insisting that all eligible voters whose names appear in the gazetted register will be allowed to cast their ballots.
IEBC also reminded voters that only an original national identity card or a valid Kenyan passport will be accepted for identification at polling stations.
To enhance transparency, the commission said the register has already been printed and displayed at every polling station across the constituency, giving voters an opportunity to confirm their registration details before polling day.
“The Register of Voters remains secure,” the commission said, adding that the gazetted register is the only one that will be used in the July 16 by election.
The assurance comes as election preparations enter the final stretch, with both the IEBC and security agencies expressing confidence that all logistical arrangements have been completed.
Last week, Nyandarua County security officials warned politicians and members of the public against attempts to remain at polling stations under the guise of “protecting votes,” saying the responsibility of securing the electoral process rests with the IEBC and security agencies. Voters were encouraged to cast their ballots peacefully and leave polling stations after voting.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by election will be held on Thursday, July 16, to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of area MP David Njuguna Kiaraho earlier this year. The campaign period officially ends before polling day, with nine candidates cleared to contest the seat.
The commission has urged voters to rely on its official communication channels for election updates and to verify their registration details before heading to polling stations on election day.
