In a statement issued on Thursday, February 27, 2026, Governor Gladys Wanga announced that she had officially accepted a resignation letter from the Deputy Governor, which wasdated February 26, 2026.

I press statement seen by Tkio, Wanga stated that the resignation will take effect immediately and referenced Article 181(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, along with Section 32C(b) of the County Governments Act, 2012, as the legal grounds for declaring the office vacant.

The Governor remarked that Magwanga had formerly sought the gubernatorial position before the 2022 General Elections and subsequently accepted the role of running mate to promote party unity within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The statement noted that the resignation letter mentioned “ongoing and insurmountable disagreements,” which the Governor claimed had progressively impacted the unified focus of the county leadership.
