The government is working on a roadmap to ensure persons with disabilities can access online public services without barriers.
The plan was discussed at the Digital, ICT and AI Accessibility Roadmap Validation Forum held at the Kenya School of Government.
In a statement posted by Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot, she said the country’s digital transformation agenda must include all citizens, including persons with disabilities.
Wendot delivered the keynote address on behalf of Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei.
The roadmap sets out how accessibility should be considered in government planning, budgeting, procurement and management of digital systems.
It also provides for closer coordination between government agencies through the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Disability Rights.
Accountability will be tracked through the Disability Mainstreaming Performance Indicator included in public service performance contracts.
Wendot said the government was working towards a public service where disability does not prevent people from accessing information, opportunities or essential services.
