In a major step to foster long-term peace and provide more educational opportunities in Kerio Valley and surrounding areas, the government has opened Kimore Boys’ Senior School located in Keiyo North Sub, County, Kimore Location.
Speaking about the initiative, Interior PS Raymond Omollo said the school’s establishment is among key interventions aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity by empowering young people through quality education and expanding opportunities for local communities.
Implemented by the Ministry of Education under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework, the institution is the first National School (Category C1) dedicated exclusively to senior school education in both Elgeyo-Marakwet County and Uasin Gishu County.
Besides the CBE pathways, the school will offer the three alternative ways, giving children the chance to explore the different paths in their development, learn and master skills and choose professions that are in harmony with the Government’s Bottom, Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Kimore Boys’ Senior School is starting out by accepting its initial batch of 71 grade 10 learners, which is an important step forward for the region’s development and the access to secondary education in particular.
Administrative offices (office block), dormitory and dining hall have already been completed and are in active use. Safaricom Foundation helped in financing the construction of the dining hall while additional classrooms for the increase of the school capacity are still under construction.
Beyond education, the project is also improving access to clean water through the drilling of a borehole, installation of water storage facilities and establishment of community water kiosks that now serve both the school and neighbouring villages.
The Interior Ministry revealed Kimore Boys’ Senior School forms part of bigger initiatives by State Department for Internal Security of the Government to restore peace, strengthen social harmony and facilitate long lasting development opportunities in the region which was previously very dangerous Kerio Valley.
