The government has intensified security operations in Samburu, Meru and Isiolo counties as authorities move to curb banditry, cattle rustling and organised criminal networks in the region.
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, briefed the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
Murkomen said security agencies were conducting intelligence-led operations to track down perpetrators, disrupt cattle-rustling syndicates, and recover stolen livestock.
He said buffer points, including the newly established Lii and Magado training camps in Meru, had been set up to deter cross-border banditry.
Specialised units including the General Service Unit, Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Quick Response Unit and Special Operations Group have also been deployed in affected areas.
The CS said sustained disarmament exercises, recruitment and training of National Police Reservists would strengthen security operations through local intelligence and support.
Kanja assured the committee that operations would continue until the region is secure, while Amin called for calm as investigations continue to identify and arrest key suspects linked to banditry networks.
