The government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the transformation of Northern Kenya through strategic investments aimed at addressing historical inequalities and unlocking the region’s economic potential.

President William Samoei Ruto made the remarks following a meeting with leaders from Isiolo, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties at State House, Nairobi.

The delegation was led by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and included Ahmed Abdullahi, Nathif Jama and Mohamed Khalif.

President Ruto said the government was working closely with leaders from the region to tackle long-standing development challenges and accelerate socio-economic transformation.

“We are working closely with the leaders of Northern Kenya to address the challenges facing residents in an effort to accelerate the region’s transformation,” the President said.

He noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration had adopted deliberate policies aimed at ending decades of marginalisation by promoting equitable development, expanding access to essential services and creating more economic opportunities for local communities.

“Our deliberate policies are ending decades of marginalisation by ensuring equitable development, expanding access to essential services and creating more economic opportunities for the people,” he said.

The President identified the National Infrastructure Fund as one of the government’s key vehicles for financing transformative projects in the region.

According to Ruto, the fund will support investments in energy generation, water harvesting and storage, and irrigation projects aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and unlocking Northern Kenya’s industrial potential.

“Strategic initiatives such as the recently established National Infrastructure Fund will provide the resources necessary to invest in energy generation, water harvesting and storage, and irrigation to unlock the region’s industrial and agricultural potential,” he said.

The President emphasized that collaboration between the national and county governments remains critical in delivering inclusive development and improving livelihoods across the region.
