Deputy President Kithure Kindiki emphasized that agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and the blue economy are pivotal to ensuring food security, diversifying the economy, and improving household incomes for millions of Kenyans.

Speaking at the Official Residence in Karen, Kindiki outlined the government’s commitment to addressing the persistent challenges affecting key sectors within agriculture and the blue economy.

The government will continue to implement reforms on a case-by-case basis to overcome bottlenecks hindering growth.

“We are focused on unlocking the full potential of our agricultural and blue economy value chains, including tea, coffee, sugar, livestock, fisheries, mariculture, and aquaculture,” said Deputy President Kindiki. “Through these reforms, we aim to enhance production, create jobs, and boost economic growth across the country.”

The Deputy President received status reports from sector players in agriculture and the blue economy, marking a critical step in advancing ongoing reforms.

During the meeting, a roadmap was agreed upon for scaling up the implementation of the reforms to ensure maximum benefits.

Among the officials present were Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Andrew Karanja, Principal Secretaries Jonathan Mueke (Livestock Development), Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy), Patrick Kilemi (Cooperatives), Idris Dakota (Cabinet Affairs), Teresia Mbaika (Devolution), and other senior government officials.
