Chelsea have agreed to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for £40m.
The 21-year-old Argentine was told to find a new club by United boss Ruben Amorim at the end of last season.
Chelsea’s initial offer was £25m, but the deal now ranks as United’s fourth-biggest sale, behind Ronaldo, Lukaku, and Di Maria. Garnacho had been pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge since January, though United initially demanded £60m.
His exit helps United meet Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), having spent £200m on new forwards.
Garnacho, a homegrown talent, made 144 senior appearances and scored 27 goals, though his finishing has been criticized — converting just two of 16 big chances last season.
He has scored 27 times in his club career – a goal every 5.3 games – and reached double figures in all competitions in each of the past two seasons.
He found the net six times in 36 Premier League appearances in the previous campaign, which doesn’t appear a bad return for a United side that finished in 15th place.
