Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has returned to Kenya after an extended tour of the United States, hosting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County.

Gachagua welcomed the delegation on Tuesday, October 20, shortly after his return, bringing together leaders linked to his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and the Linda Mwananchi faction as political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election gather pace.

In a message shared alongside photographs of the meeting, Gachagua described the visitors as his cousins, expressing optimism about their engagement.

“Welcome to Wamunyoro residence my cousins from Linda Mwananchi. When we come together great things must happen,” he wrote.

The delegation was led by Sifuna and included Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Pauline Njoroge, former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo and Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.

Gachagua was accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, who is the party’s Secretary General-designate.

The meeting comes after Gachagua spent nearly two months in the United States, where he engaged Kenyans living abroad and held political consultations ahead of the next General Election.

He left Kenya on August 26 and concluded his scheduled diaspora engagements in October before extending his stay for further consultations at his Texas ranch.

During the tour, Gachagua said he wanted to consult Kenyans abroad and consider his political options ahead of the 2027 polls.

His return comes at a time when opposition leaders are discussing how to work together against President William Ruto’s re-election bid, with disagreements emerging over coalition strategy and the timing of selecting a joint presidential candidate.

The Linda Mwananchi movement has also been positioning itself within the opposition, with Sifuna emerging as a central figure in its activities.

The Wamunyoro meeting brings together leaders from different political formations, although no formal coalition agreement or joint presidential candidature was announced during the visit.

The engagement is likely to draw attention as opposition leaders seek common ground ahead of the 2027 General Election.
