It has emerged that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, through his three proxies, tried bribing Members of Parliament to woo them to vote against his impeachment motion.
The three, a Kiambu female legislator, a Nakuru MP and a high-level staffer at Gachagua’s office, were captured roaming around the National Assembly and calling MPs offering them between KSh 1 million and KSh 2 million.
A source intimated to TUKIO.co.ke exclusively revealed that the cash offer was for the MPs to either absent themselves or vote NO to Gachagua’s ouster.
Notably, in the impeachment motion, Gachagua is being accused of amassing a property portfolio estimated at KSh 5.2 billion within two years through corruption and money laundering.
The source regretted that the KSh 2 million bribes might be part of the money that the second in command is accused of looting from the public coffers.
Despite the alleged bribes, 281 MPs voted to impeach Gachagua with only 44 lawmakers opposing the motion sponsored by Mwengi Mutuse of Kibwezi West.
