The government has announced that the Funyula Affordable Housing Project in Busia County is nearing completion, with construction works finalized and painting and other finishing touches currently underway ahead of occupancy.
The government has revealed that in Funyula, Busia County, the project for affordable housing is almost done, and now what remains are only details such as painting and the finishing touches before the people can move in.
Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, said that the commitment of the government to providing decent and affordable housing to more people is shown by the project, which is also aimed at promoting economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for Kenyans.
PS Omollo stated that housing isn’t merely about giving people a place to live, but it’s a major determinant of a person’s dignity, productivity, and the development of the country at large. He argued that when citizens live in secure and well, designed environments, their contributions towards economic transformation are more effective.
It’s envisaged that the Funyula Affordable Housing Project will be a state-of-the-art estate that will feature both social and affordable housing units, with separate blocks of houses allocated for different income brackets and addressing various housing needs.
This strategy is expected to broaden access to quality housing. And, the estate won’t only provide residential units, but it will also offer very basic infrastructures and facilities that enhance one’s living experience. These will be a dependable water supply system, tight security through fencing, well, designed internal roads, beautified and natural, green spots, kids play areas, and commercial outlets.
The government further explains that the well, thought, out community and housing unite a overall plan to build a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly housing sector that supports and encourages the activation of the local economy.
Apart from the construction of houses, the government also intends to provide the residents of the estate with facilities necessary for a comfortable living through the provision of a good water system, construction of perimeter fences, road works within the estate landscaping playgrounds and also commercial areas.
Omollo observed that as the readiness of the housing project for human occupancy tightens, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is planning to work together with the various government agencies and local communities to initiate and implement security measures.
Such measures would be increasing and visibility of security personnel, readiness for emergencies and carrying out community policing efforts so that the residents will be able to live in a safe and orderly neighbourhood.
The government’s initiative of Affordable Housing Programme to which the Funyula project belongs, is a step towards increasing the number of people who own homes, lowering the housing deficit and raising the level of employment through the construction of large, scale buildings nationwide.
