Fresh State Appointments Rolled Out by Cabinet Secretaries

A number of fresh and renewed appointments have been rolled out by several Cabinet Secretaries across key docket areas such as defense, education, agriculture, trade, and energy, just as the country is set to enter the next General Election.

Defense CS Soipan Tuya has announced the reappointment of Lt. Col. (Rtd) Edward Cherop Kimosop to serve an additional three-year term on the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans. His new term will take effect from May 2, 2026.

The reappointment of Kimosop to the position is contained in a gazette notice by the Defense Council, which states that the Military Veterans Act has been used to allow Kimosop to continue to serve in the position by guiding matters touching on military veterans.

In the sports and creative industry sector, Sports CS Salim Mvurya has renewed John Njogu Njoroge’s appointment to serve an additional three-year term as the Chairperson of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

In addition to Njoroge’s appointment, several other board members have been renewed to serve an additional three-year term, effective February 24, 2023. The renewed appointments include John Muigai Nyururu, Hariety Namwezi Zitah, Stephanie Kamene Maseki, Kipruto Kiptoo, John Osimbo, Grace Mwendwa Munjuri, and Raphael Ekadeli Loperito.

Regarding the agricultural sector, CS Dr. Mutahi Kagwe re-appointed Gabriel Pulei to the Kenya Dairy Board for another three-year term, effective February 20, 2023.

In the trade sector, CS Lee Kinyanjui re-appointed Francis Mugo as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Scrap Metal Council for another three years.

Regarding education, CS Julius Ogemba made new appointments to the national polytechnics. James Okebiro Mageto and Ethel Nakhumicha Githirwa were appointed members of the Council of Kiambu National Polytechnic for a three-year period.

Pauline M. Mallo Nagila and Julius Mokogi were appointed members of the Council of Kabete National Polytechnic, while Gilbert Kiptanui Nyongi was re-appointed to Kabete National Polytechnic for three years.

Regarding the energy sector, CS Opiyo Wandayi re-appointed Mark Nderitu Muturi, Sammy Choge, and Peter Kenneth Kimani as members of Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC), led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, announced appointments. Stephen Odhiambo Anditi was appointed as the Chairperson of the Public Private Partnerships Petition Committee.
