The body of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has been transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Jirongo’s body arrived at the funeral home shortly before noon, where it was received by family members and close friends.
The former legislator died in a fatal road accident in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, while driving from Naivasha to Nairobi.
According to a police report, Jirongo died on the spot after his Mercedes-Benz saloon car was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus belonging to Climax Sacco at the Karai area along the Nakuru–Naivasha highway.
The bus driver told police that Jirongo had just exited a petrol station and joined the highway but failed to give way, remaining in the wrong lane in an apparent attempt to avoid a traffic jam.
“He left the petrol station and joined the highway without giving way. He came straight towards me, and we collided head-on. I tried to swerve, but I feared the bus would roll, so I applied the brakes, and he hit the bus,” the driver told investigators.
Police said Jirongo’s body was initially taken to the Naivasha Sub-county Mortuary before being transferred later in the day to Nairobi for preservation.
