Former FKF President Nick Mwendwa

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has opened up on whether to make a comeback to FKF leadership.

Reflecting on his journey since leaving the helm of Kenyan football, he offered a rare insight into his thoughts on the future. He was elected as FKF President in February 2016 until December 2024, when his tenure came to end.

“I have no interest. I have so much to do currently. I have done my part, about 10 years leading the game in the country. At 35 years, I became President and so I do not think there is much left to do in football,” Mwendwa said.

His 19 months out of the FKF left speculation swirling around his next move. His remarks have now provided clarity on whether he sees himself returning to the federation’s leadership.

He pointed out the younger generation can take charge and move the game to the next level in leadership.

During his time, he was credited for pushing modernization in Kenyan football, including efforts to professionalize the league and strengthen youth development. His tenure was marked by governance disputes, financial controversies and strained relations with FIFA and CAF.
