Five patients infected with the Ebola Bundibugyo virus have recovered and been discharged from hospitals in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to contain the outbreak.

The Ministry of Health confirmed on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, that two patients treated at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and three at The Nairobi Hospital had completed treatment and tested negative for the virus.

The five male patients were discharged after remaining symptom-free and undergoing laboratory tests that confirmed they had cleared the infection. In a further boost to the country’s response, 46 contacts who completed their monitoring period without developing symptoms were released from quarantine and reunited with their families.

The latest releases bring the total number of contacts discharged to 66, following the release of 20 others on October 25. The remaining 52 contacts are expected to leave quarantine by November 11 after completing the mandatory 21-day monitoring period.

Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth said the total number of confirmed Ebola cases remained at nine, including two deaths, representing a case fatality rate of 22.2 per cent.

No new infections have been recorded since October 19, with all confirmed cases linked to one cluster originating from an imported case.

Two patients remain under treatment as surveillance continues nationwide.
