Kenya sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala has confirmed that his 2026 athletics season has come to an abrupt end after suffering a stress fracture in his left heel.

He revealed the injury sustained two weeks before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, forcing him to withdraw from the Diamond League Final in Brussels and the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.

“Unfortunately, due to a stress fracture of the heel bone in my left foot, sustained two weeks before the Commonwealth Games, I won’t be able to compete in my final two races of the season. Not quite the finish we had planned, but there is so much from this season to celebrate and be grateful for,” Omanyala said in statement.

The 30-year-old sprinter thanked his coaches, backroom team, sponsors and global fanbase for their unwavering support throughout the year, focusing his next move after recovery in the future global championships.

“To my coach, my entire team, my sponsors and partners: Thank you for the work behind the scenes, the belief, the support and for continuing to walk this journey with me…thank you for running this season with me,” he added.

He will undergo rehabilitation and recovery, with his focus set firmly on the 2027 global championship cycle, setting up a strong foundation with his technical team. Despite setbacks, his consistency this has reinforced his reputation as Africa’s fastest man.
