The European Union has nominated Andreas Peschke as its new Ambassador to Kenya after serving a decade as Germany’s ambassador the country.
Peschke announced the nomination on Friday, August 14, 2026, saying he is honored by the opportunity is looking forward to taking up the position.
“I’m happy to share that I was nominated as EU Ambassador to Kenya. Feeling very honored and looking forward to taking up duty soon,” he wrote.
Peschke will succeed Henriette Geiger, who concluded her tenure in 2026 after completing five years of service.
The announcement was made by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, who stated the importance of Kenya as a strategic partner for the European Union in East Africa.
He brings an extensive experience, having served in multiple diplomatic postings such as, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office in 1996, with early assignments in Nigeria and Russia. He also served as spokesperson for German foreign policy and later as Director-General for European Affairs at Berlin Headquarters.
He oversaw the relations with Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia; later making ways as an ambassador to Kenya from 2013 to 2015. He served as an ambassador to South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini in 2021 to 2026, having strengthened Germany’s ties with Southern Africa.
His return to Kenya comes as the EU and Kenya continue to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, climate action, governance and regional security.
